What You Don’t Know About Remote Video Surveillance
There are a lot of things in life that we don’t know about, but perhaps we are better off. It used to be that you could go into a store and you would have to deal with someone watching you. Though there may be no reason why that would bother you, it can be annoying to feel like someone assumes you are going to do something wrong and then proceeds to follow you around the store. Remote video surveillance was something that many stores did not have then, but it is very common today. These cameras and systems are often more powerful than you think. If you have your own business, this might be a good tool to deter loss through theft. Stores deal with loss through theft all of the time. Though a majority of this is from customers who have come in to shoplift, there are always problems with employee theft as well. This can be them stealing money, but it can also be that they are ringing up friends and not charging them for everything that they have put up for purchase. This is one of the biggest reasons why remote video surveillance is a good idea. The employees can be monitored without someone standing there trying to catch these things. As a bonus, the proof is then on tape. What most don’t know is also that cameras put in for remote video surveillance are everywhere, and many of them are in places where people simply do not see them. These cameras for remote video surveillance are often ones that can be moved by remote. That means they are not focused on one spot. If they were, people could work around that to do things that they should not be doing. Cameras that can be moved are the best for remote surveillance, as they can catch everything. What was surprising to me is how good some of these cameras are. I worked in store that was part of a shopping plaza. My store had remote video surveillance, and we got to see how it works. I think it was to deter us from stealing, but I wasn’t worried about that. However, the cameras were more powerful than I thought. They could zoom in on a license plate of a car a few football fields away. That was impressive. That means even someone who was not caught in the store could be caught by remote video surveillance reading and recording their plate. Even more astonishing was the story I heard from someone who works in a well-known retail electronics store. They too have remote video surveillance, which was not a huge surprise to me. What she told me was that their cameras were so good that they could zoom in and see what you were reading or typing in a text message on your phone. Though I am sure there are reasons why this is something they may do, that scares me a bit. Remember that next time you are sending a text to someone while shopping. A stranger could be reading what you are saying.
